September means getting back into the swing of things!

Check out a few of the fun things we have been doing here in 1L.

We've been doing some amazing read alouds too! 

We like to focus on books with messages and morals our first grade family can relate to. Kevin Henkes writes some great ones that we have explored.

Ask your child: "What is your favorite book by Kevin Henkes?" 

(possible answers: Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, Wemberly Worried, Chester's Way, A Weekend with Wendall)

We are 1L

We are 1L!

This fall, we have worked hard to come together and think about kindness in our classroom. We have read books and have had conversations about our similarities and our differences in Open Circle. We have seen how we can work together, bringing our unique qualities to a task and make something truly wonderful.

“We are 1L” means that we promise to look out for each other, build each other up, take pride in ourselves and our class, and every day try to be better than the day before! 

Reading makes me feel good because...

Students in 1L have been launching Reader's Workshop by thinking about their favorite books and how those books make them feel good. Check us out as we pose with our favorite books.

Dear 1L friends and families,

I just finished setting up our classroom and now I am planning all of the fun things that we will be doing over the next few weeks. Here are some things to look forward to this week:

1. Learning 18 new faces and names
2. Reading and sharing our favorite books with classmates
3. Art class with Mr. H and music class with Mrs. Y
4. Writing stories about our summer adventures
5. Exploring our classroom together through some fun scavenger hunt activities.

It's going to be so much fun getting to know each of you!

P.S. Don't forget your favorite book on Wednesday! We'll be using them all week, so they will stay in a safe spot in our classroom until Monday (most likely).
